Seville, the heart and soul of Andalusia
No trip to Spain is complete without a visit to the beautiful city of Seville, the heart and soul of Andalusia. This enchanting city makes you feel like you’re living in a fairy tale. It’s bright and colorful and everything I love about Spain. Seville is also a big university town and is extremely popular with people studying abroad. In case you are wondering who that gorgeous blonde is on the photos: this beauty is my sister in law! If you’re planning a weekend Seville make sure you visit:
Plaza de España
Designed in the Art Deco style, the Plaza has that same Spanish flair you’d seen everywhere else in Seville: lots of bright colors, bold geometric shapes and lavish embellishments. Small alcoves line the Plaza, meticulously detailed with scenes and maps of the 48 provinces of Spain. Each one of them is colorfully decorated with painted tiles. If you’re from Spain the tradition is to have your photo taken in the alcove of your home province. I tried to catch the beauty on camera but this definitely is one of those need-to-see-it-for-yourself kind of places!
Seeing a Flamenco show in Seville is an absolute must (along with eating tapas & drinking sangria!). Touristy? Sure, but you’ll definitely have a night full of passion and noise. People in this part of Spain are known for their love of music and dance! The best places to go:
The Water Gardens of Dorne (The Real Alcazar of Seville)
The oldest Royal Palace still in use in Europe and emblematic symbol of the city. The royal family still use the upper floors when they’re in town. It’s also been seen on screen in Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones.
Tapas & good food!
Seville is widely recognized as one of the best cities to dine in Spain. I’m sure you’ll find great food everywhere around town while the city is full of amazing traditional tapas restaurants. I want to highlight one restaurant in particular; Mama Bistro! A perfect option if you’re looking for something other than just tapas; something more adventurous! They’re offering stylish Mediterranean cuisine along with some classic Spanish dishes.
